English Defence League Protest, Leeds

On 31 October, roughly 900 supporters of the English Defence League protested in Leeds against what they see as the rise of 'radical islam' in Britain. I was penned in behind the police lines to cover the event.

Bus operator First strike & SYFBU's second strike walkout

Friday saw a series of strikes across South Yorkshire: drivers from bus operator First began strike action over disciplinary issues at the Oliver Grove bus depot, whilst South Yorkshire Fire Brigade's Union staged it's second walkout within a week as their grievances failed to be resolved during negotiations.

Pistola Kicks

Recently I met Rich Martin, the lead singer of Sheffield based band Pistola Kicks and we decided that we'd like to team up for a shoot. Pistola' were due to support The Holloways (photo's from that set coming soon..) as part of Sheffield University's Freshers Week entertainments so what better time to go and make some images! The Sheffield based band deliver catchy, infectious rock and look like they have the potential to follow in the footsteps of other notable local bands such as Reverend and the Makers and of course the Arctic Monkeys. A great group of lads, I wish them the best of luck.

The Charlatans

The first night of Stockton Fringe Festival was headlined by The Charlatans; one of the few early 1990's 'Madchester' bands to still be performing today. Along with the customary three song rule, all of the photographer's were presented with extremely challenging lighting conditions - all back lit, all red's, no light filling from the front!

The Proclaimers

Hello again.. apologies for the delay but i've been sorting out my big move! I'm now sat in my very nice, 'cosy' (cheap) new flat eagerly awaiting the start of my course next Monday. In the meantime i'll be able to try and get on top of my massive backlog of images before I start a whole new pile with the onset of the course.

As with The Chapman Family shots, these were taken at Stockton Fringe Festival. And no, I didn't walk 500 miles to get these shots.

I haven't forgot you.. The Chapman Family

As alot of you 'bloggers' out there, I started out with all good intentions about how I was to keep this extremely up to date.. well life doesn't always allow that! I've been very busy with work, buying cars (and then fixing them), and sorting out my big move. So more on that.. I'm moving back to Yorkshire this week - more specifically Sheffield - where I will be doing an NCTJ Pre-Entry to Photojournalism course. I'm hoping that this creates the avenues I want, and need, to break into the industry that I love.

Anyway this blog isn't about my life per se, it's about the photo's that I take. So without further ado, here are a selection from the recent Stockton Fringe Festival. The Chapman Family have been making big waves in the indie scene over the last year, propping up NME tours and creating a name for themselves with their absolutely-anything-goes sets.

Looking Back: The Credit Crunch

I'm currently pretty busy with my day-to-day jobs and so haven't had chance to take / edit any recent photo's. As such, here are a few from an earlier series in which I started to document the effect of the recession on my hometown, Stockton-on-Tees. Hopefully I will be have more to add to this photo story in the near future.
